Legacy Media Reaches Final Stage of Colbert Cancellation Grief

No one was angrier about Stephen Colbert's CBS cancellation than the Legacy Media.

Sure, "The Late Show" staffers took the news hard. So did the show's host, who will miss peddling DNC talking points to the nation. Still, reporters wailed and gnashed their teeth for months over the news.

The media's talking points got more emotional over time. And, when the final "Late Show" approached, the press treated the moment like the moon landing ... but far more important.

Reporters lacked the self awareness to grasp how their rage only proved their critics' point. Colbert was a far-Left tool who ignored the truth to promote an agenda. And their 10-month mourning period reminded everyone how biased their platforms remain.

Suffice it to say when Greg Gutfeld leaves his Fox News perch the stories will be celebratory, not sad.

Something odd happened in recent days, though, a shift in the media narrative regarding Colbert's "Late Show" demise. Not only did reporters remember the show's staggering losses, they admitted that the new kid in town - billionaire Byron Allen - is making CBS richer, not poorer.

Allen's "Comics Unleashed" program is taking "The Late Show's" slot. The long-running show is an apolitical perch for comedians to flex their funny bones. It isn't a standard late-night show, but it allows viewers to drift off to sleep with a smile on their faces.

It's also left Tiffany Network executives grinning from ear to ear. Why?

Variety was one of several major media outlets to share this damning fact about the passing of the late-night torch from Colbert to Allen.

“With this ‘time buy’ model, we have shifted an hour that was losing roughly $40 million annually to $15 million in profit — a $55 million swing.”

Remember the Five Stages of Grief? Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression and Acceptance? Legacy Media types are finally coming to the final stages of grief - Acceptance.

Some outlets, alas, haven't gone through all five stages yet. A few celebrated the fact that "Comics Unleashed" drew much smaller numbers than what "The Late Show" generated on a regular basis. Some comically compared the numbers from Colbert's final show to the first few "Comics Unleashed" figures.

That's a comically unfair data set, but it's right in line with Legacy Media bias.

The far-Left AV Club isn't even at the Bargaining stage of Grief. The site slammed Allen's takeover, ignoring the cold, hard facts behind CBS's decision.

But apolitical is a political choice, and by excising whatever fangs comedy has, Allen is producing a show that is in the best interest of those in power and his bottom line. Comics Unleashed is late night ens***ified, which is exactly what CBS wants.

If you're not Speaking Truth to Power, you're doing something wrong, right? (Never mind disgraced Rep. Eric Swalwell, that "Learing" center or other troublesome stories).

Let's give The AV Club and lesser outlets some time. They'll get to the Acceptance lever. Eventually.
