Welcome back to our VIP video series "Off the Beaten Path," featuring my friend Christian Toto of Hollywood in Toto! Christian and I start off our week by discussing stories and ideas that may fly under our radar, in culture, politics, sports, and more. Plus, Christian previews his latest podcast at HiT.
It's getting tougher and tougher to distinguish the beaten path these days. Francesca Hong's bizarre rant about Thanksgiving and another on "old white people" at Culver's make for a fascinating look at the cultural disconnect on the Left. Christian and Ed walk through Hong's inability to answer for others, and how this reflects on Academia's Marxist culture. The elite that links through Academia appears to have totally lost a connecting thread to mainstream American culture, and we discuss what that means.
It also brings us to the WNBA, where the W depends on whose ox is getting gored. Christian is amazed that the league doesn't grasp the value that Sophie Cunningham brings to the table, and we're both amused about Cheryl Reeve's very limited embrace of Title IX. We mention Clay Travis' bid to force the WNBA to play by its objections to Cunningham's common-sense views on biology and competition, and point out that such demonstrations have already taken place. Unfortunately, in some cases.
We do finally turn our attention to the movies, where Ed has to make a formal mea culpa for his prediction last week on the latest Spider-Man movie. How did it succeed where so many others (but not The Odyssey and Toy Story 5) have failed? We discuss the latest from Bill Maher and his anger over the DSA, as well as Vin Diesel's valiant attempt to promote the eleventh installment of the Fast and Furious franchise.
