Rebel News managed to get to one of the pseudo-detention/shelter centers they have set up there in Ceuta for the supposedly deported migrants, and many of them told the reporter that the European Union had facilitated their arrival.

Spain is trying a different tack to helping out Prime Minister Sanchez's invited but unwelcome guests, and it should be a familiar refrain, as it's quite possibly the most infamous phrase in the authoritarian justification rule book:

Now, I haven't seen one tiny tot come across those harbor waves or the fence in Ceuta, but the Spanish government is saying about 1,000 'children' have been abandoned, and don't you know they need help?
Oh - and it seems the number of invaders has been bumped up a tad - to 72,000.

Hundreds of migrant children who poured across the Moroccan border into the Spanish territory of Ceuta could be sent to mainland Europe.
Authorities in Ceuta said there were 862 children from Morocco in the Spanish enclave, but the migration centre in the North African territory only had enough beds for 29 children.
Spain has said almost all the 72,000 migrants who entered Ceuta last Thursday have been returned. However, on Monday local authorities revealed that as many as 5,000 remained.
Spanish law says that adult migrants can apply for asylum and, if rejected, will face expulsion procedures.
Children have more protections: those who choose to remain in the territory cannot be returned immediately to Morocco, but each case must be considered individually.

...Elma Saiz, Spain's migration minister, announced on Tuesday that the government was allocating an extra €25m (about £21m) for children who arrived in Cueta last week.
The latest development could cause a political row, because some regions governed by the opposition conservative People's Party depend on the support of the far-Right Vox party, which may put up obstacles.
And there's a bit of a clue about the ages of these kiddies in the article, as they interviewed a 17-year-old whose 8-year-old brother had supposedly drowned and her mother disappeared.
But €25m is one helluva lot of cha-ching for less than 1,000 kids, however old they are. How could they possibly need that much money?
And how is Spain going to afford it - how do they even justify such an enormous sum when their Spanish children are in such horrible straits?

The country’s child poverty rate is one of the highest in Europe — and it’s barely changed in 20 years. Will an ambitious bet on universal childcare make a difference?
...While Spain’s economy has outperformed major European Union peers in recent years, around a third of its children face poverty and social exclusion, a share exceeded in the region only by Bulgaria. Yet governments of all shades over two decades have struggled to address that inequality, and to share evenly the benefits of an immigration-fueled boom among the country’s 49 million people.
Child poverty is now so entrenched that, according to one recent study, it comes with an annual price tag of around €63 billion ($74 billion), or about 5% of output. That has already translated into lost future productivity, poorer educational outcomes, and the erosion of health and equal opportunity. Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez’s administration aims to cut the Gordian knot with an annual investment of roughly €18 billion in a universal childcare benefit.
“What is striking here, really, and what is relevant and concerning, is that it’s not only the snapshot but the dynamic,” said Jorge Galindo, director of the Esade Centre for Economic Policy, an independent think tank known as EsadeEcPol. “Spain’s child poverty rate has been stuck between 25% and 30% since 2008, nor has it changed when we have grown economically.”
He attributed that to a “structural problem,” with relatively low social spending not reaching families who need it, and a particularly stark two-tiered labor market, which protects a small core of workers while cycling the majority through low-paid, insecure jobs. Soaring accommodation costs — a long shadow of the housing collapse that followed the 2008 financial crisis — compounds the challenges.
