Now, very odd things can happen in the wintry cold and dark up along our northern border, and often do. The stuff of local legends, in fact. It's the nature of the deep woods and the sometimes peculiar people it takes to survive in that environment.
But what's happened in the past four days, which has received little to no national airtime at all, is really more on the disturbing side than the normal fare of Sasquatch-type sightings...
...and ghostly, grizzled mountain men wandering out of the dense forest only to fade back into them.
There have been two separate, almost simultaneous border crossing incidents. SO close in timing and nature, that people thought reports had conflused two locations of what was only a single incident.
But no.
It started in Lubec, Maine, which is the tiny border crossing at the very most northeastern tip of that state's coast.
Virtually unnoticed, a call came in over the police scanner for an ambulance for the 'Lubec Division EMS,' to respond for 'a gunshot wound' at the Pumping Station Road.
'You have a customs officer on scene.'

An an unsubstantiated source reached out, alerting us that a man rushed the Canadian border in Lubec and was shot. This was on Sunday when something similar happened in New Hampshire.

Meanwhile, mere hours later and in a direct line 282 miles to the west, another border and bullet incident happened.

The Pittsburg, New Hampshire, confrontation started out as a traffic stop, which went awry when the suspect drove off after being questioned about the use of other names.
...According to the complaint, on the evening of February 21, 2026, a Border Patrol agent encountered Daly driving alone in Stewartstown, New Hampshire, near the Canadian border. The agent asked whether Daly had used any other names, at which point Daly drove away. The Border Patrol agent followed at a distance. Shortly after midnight on February 22, 2026, Daly arrived at the Pittsburg Port of Entry on the border between the United States and Canada. The crossing was closed and the gate was locked. The Border Patrol agent activated his emergency lights and exited his vehicle, at which point Daly started to turn. Daly then fired a handgun at the Border Patrol agent. The agent returned fire with his own service weapon and shot Daly.
The questions posed to the now-hospitalized suspect were perfectly legitimate...
The suspect who shot at a border agent over the weekend has been identified as Cullan Zeke Daly, 26, a Manchester man who uses the feminine identity Blu Zeke Daly.
...It is not clear what Daly was doing roughly 150 miles north of Manchester. The drive from Manchester to the Canadian border takes about three hours. Available information does not indicate when Daly arrived in the North Country.
...considering the circumstances and the location. Last year a Border Patrol agent was murdered in Vermont by members associated with a transgender organization of anarchists.
Investigators examining ideological ties of Border Patrol shooting suspect
Investigators have not yet been able to speak with a person accused of firing at a Border Patrol agent because of the extent of the injuries they suffered after the agent returned fire, officials said Wednesday.
Blu Zeke Daly, 26, also known as Cullan Zeke Daly, of Manchester, was charged with attempted murder of a federal officer.
...Daly may be transgender or nonbinary, according to the U.S. attorney and court paperwork obtained by WMUR.
"This individual did have a previous Massachusetts driver's license that was denominated to be male and now has a New Hampshire driver's license, which is denominated to be female. So, it's a reasonable assumption that the person has decided to transition their gender," Creegan said.
...When asked about potential ideological motivations, Creegan said all aspects of the case remain under investigation but pointed to the killing of a Border Patrol agent in Vermont just over a year ago. That shooting was linked to members of a group known as the Zizians, whose members are mostly transgender or nonbinary and who advocate an ideology that includes anarchism, veganism and fringe rationalist beliefs.
"When you have something happen which targets a Border Patrol agent in that area, it would be a reasonable line of investigative inquiry to determine whether there is any connection to a broader network or group, because that does appear to exist, the allegations that did exist in the murder investigation involving the Border Patrol agent," Creegan said.

Authorities have yet to find out much more as Daly is still hospitalized, but they have charged him with significant felonies.
...The U.S. Attorney's office said both counts Daly is charged with carry possible sentences of up to 20 years in prison and a fine of as much as $250,000.
Is this another case of the blossoming trans violence wave, or is there something even more sinister connected to it?
The media's silence on what had happened in Lubec had folks questioning if anything actually had, until that recording of the dispatcher's call confirmed it.
Okay then - a border patrol agent involved shooting at another border crossing? Where was the news on that?
The next shoe to drop was an eyewitness account, recounted by the young man's father-in-law. Ryan, his wife, and his tiny baby had driven up just in time to see the agent struggling with someone in the middle of the county road. a

On Sunday, February 22, an incident occurred involving a U.S. Border Patrol agent in Lubec, Maine. Dan Daley's son-in-law, who was driving home with his wife and newborn baby, witnessed the event.

...The son-in-law, Ryan, exited his vehicle to assist the agent. During the encounter, a shot was fired. Details remain limited, and the situation is still developing.
*On the same day an alleged trans/nonbinary individual attacked a border patrol agent on the Canadian border in New Hampshire. There is no evidence that they are linked except that both incidents happened on the same Sunday.
THREE HOURS AGO (!), as I write this, the Bangor Daily News got its first story up about the four-day-old encounter.
The FBI is in little Lubec to investigate something the paper says has been 'shrouded in mystery for days.' Someone ran across the border from Canada into the United States and then got into a fight with a Border Patrol agent. Getting themselves shot for the trouble.
FBI investigating alleged assault on border officer in Lubec
The FBI is investigating a Sunday incident in which a person allegedly ran the border and assaulted a U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer in Lubec.
The officer pursued a vehicle that didn’t stop at the port of entry into the U.S. The person eventually stopped for the officer about two miles from the Lubec port of entry but fought with them and was temporarily placed in custody, Kristen Setera, a spokesperson for the FBI’s Boston office, said in response to questions from the Bangor Daily News.
The incident has been shrouded in secrecy in the days since. County, state and federal law enforcement agencies said nothing about it until Thursday. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office referred a reporter to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, which has not responded to multiple inquiries this week.
The alleged assault happened around 6:40 p.m., Setera said. It was just hours before Border Patrol personnel in New Hampshire shot a person who allegedly first fired shots at them early Sunday morning. The FBI did not say if the two incidents were connected.
Well done to Mr Daly's son-in-law. God knows what could have happened had Ryan not entered the fray and helped disarm the suspect.
As for being 'shrouded in mystery,' I would say so.
