During the 2004 Presidential race, the late Democratic presidential candidate and Senator John Edwards famously intoned that "there are two Americas". It was the demagogic hook line for a campaign that desperately needed one, playing unsuccessfully to the type of class animus that the Democrats used to play a whole lot better.
But he had a point. There are Two Americas - not so much based on class and wealth, but over standards of criminal justice.
When BLM blocked freeways in major, blue cities around the country, the police literally escorted them safely onto and off the freeways; had a pro-life or Tea Party group tried the same stunt in the same place, you can bet the attack dogs and water cannon would have come out of storage.
When riots tore through Baltimore, rather than sending in the National Guard, the mayor shrugged and said the rioters needed "space to destroy" - like a riot was therapy (and not a few modern white progressives do seem to find rioting a little therapeutic, as long as it's not their neighborhood getting torched).
With that in mind: last week, David covered the story of the Minnesota state executive branch staffer and Tim Walz employee had gotten busted vandalizing Teslas.
As you may recall, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz was giddy about the drop in Tesla stock price driven by the Democrat-funded domestic terrorist campaign against Elon Musk...So Tesla it is, and Dylan Bryan Adams, a Minnesota Fiscal Analyst for the Department of Health took up Tim Walz's implicit challenge to hit Elon Musk where it hurts.

I assume that doing more than $20,000 worth of damage in multiple incidents would be a felony, but I would be shocked if Adams didn't get a sweet deal from the prosecutor and even keep his job. He is, after all, a fine upstanding state employee, and Tesla owners are Nazis.

The [Hennepin County] attorney will not pursue criminal charges against a Minnesota state employee accused of vandalizing at least six Teslas.
The Hennepin County Attorneyâs Office said Monday it would instead seek âdiversionâ of the case against 33-year-old Dylan Adams, who allegedly caused $20,000 in damage in his rampage just weeks after Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz publicly cheered Teslaâs falling stock.
âOur main priorities are to secure restitution for the victims and hold Mr. Adams accountable. As a result, we will file for pre-charge diversion to best facilitate both of those goals,â District Attorney Mary Moriarty said in a statement posted by the Twin Cities Fox affiliate.

In this instance, ânot likelyâ means âno chance.â Adams was âdiverted.â I highlighted the Post article because local media had not previously reported Adamsâ name or his employer. Credit to the UK Daily Mail for also fully covering the story when the locals wouldnât.
Fox 9 quotes Adamsâ lawyer,
My client is very remorseful for his actions and is beginning the process of making sure the victims are made whole financially. We are grateful for the Hennepin County Attorneyâs Office exercise of prosecutorial discretion, and apologize to the victims and law enforcement.
Now heâs sorry.
The question is, how long can a civil society survive when there are two standards of justice, depending on how fashionable your poliitcs are at the moment?
UPDATE: Lest you think all of Minnesota is a lost cause, the prosecutor in Anoka County - the north part of the Twin Cities metro area - sent out a warning:
