Progressives Are Still Freaking Out About Trump's Ballroom

President Trump's ballroom project is moving along at a rapid pace now that the Supreme Court has ruled in his favor two weeks ago. NewsNation reports crews are working 20 hours a day

NewsNation captured photos showing construction moving forward at a rapid pace.

Since the ruling, President Donald Trump has enlisted 250 workers on a schedule of 20 hours a day, seven days a week, for the above-ground work.

Yesterday, President Trump released new renderings of the interior of the ballroom.

The same day, a flyover of the construction site started circulating on X and gathered a lot of attention from progressives.

They are very eager to see it torn down the moment they have the power to do so. The fact that the ballroom will be useful to future Democrat presidents and that tearing it down would be wasteful (and stupid) doesn't factor in with a lot of progressives.

If Trump built it, it's bad and must be destroyed.

The Bulwark is all over it of course.

It's not a new dynamic regarding Trump but this particular expression is interesting because it shows how Trump hatred allows people to see destructive impulses, literally in this case, as somehow constructive. We must destroy this because Trump. That sums up about 75 percent of the Democrat Party's behavior at this point.

Of course there are differences of opinion and Democrats certainly are free to make those differences known when it comes to public policy. But in this case, we're talking about a physical object, one that will undoubtedly be useful to all future presidents. But Democrats are already treating it like the house from the Conjuring. It must be destroyed because it has been tainted by evil. They are sending one another into a frenzy by imagining it being demolished.

It's not just angry progressives in the media and internet randos saying this. Sen. Ruben Gallego has said he's on board with tearing it all down.

Mr. Gallego said he wants to remove everything Mr. Trump has erected in Washington or affixed his name to since taking office in 2025.

“I think I’d be advocating for almost all of that,” Mr. Gallego said on CNN’s “State of the Union” when asked whether he’d tear down the ballroom and arch.

“The fact that he has destroyed the institutions that have kept this government together through some of the hardest times and eroded, for example, our Department of Justice is another reason why we need to be taking down all these, you know, honorific situations or emblems of him,” Mr. Gallego said.

Frequently, opposition to Trump's policy preferences comes down to the belief that he's cruel and doesn't care. You've seen that play out with regard to immigration, for instance. Joe Biden came into office in 2021 promising a kinder, gentler approach to the topic and it quickly turned into a disaster. That should have been an object lesson for Democrats but of course they learned nothing. They will reopen the border the moment they have the opportunity and say it's kinder and gentler. Problems will follow which the media will largely downplay or ignore.

I think Democrats really imagine that these policy differences are about something more fundamental than orange man bad. They are the good people trying to help someone or at least not let someone get hurt by the bad people (Republicans).

The ballroom fight reveals the degree to which that is not the case at all. A completed ballroom doesn't harm anyone and tearing it down wouldn't help anyone. It would be wasteful and would take something away from future presidents that would undeniably be useful.

But the sight of it offends them.

And that's all that really matters to them. The ballroom is bad because it will remind them of Trump. The only way to purge those terrible thoughts from their brains is by removing the building itself. So that's what they want to do. There's no higher purpose. There's no one being helped and no harm to anyone being avoided. They are just throwing a tantrum in public.

It makes you wonder what percentage of all their other disagreements with Trump are like this. Do they really think the border wall is a bad idea, or do they just need it brought down because Trump did it? Do they really hate the arch he proposed across the river, or is that also just about obliterating his memory?

I guess what I'm trying to say is that if a harmless ballroom has this many supposedly thoughtful people ready to break things for the sake of breaking them, how do we know all of their preferences aren't similarly about the man and not the policy? At this point, I don't think they even know where that line is anymore. Hatred is a helluva drug and progressives have been hooked on it for years at this point.
