In her now-famous New York Times essay about placing her daughter in New York City's failing public schools and getting a bad result, Nikole Hannah-Jones described teachers who, failed show up, teach, or grade papers, and then issued straight-A's to students, promoting them all to the next grade level.
Now why would that be happening? Perhaps because the people running the New York City public schools do the same things for themselves: They make a mess, get terrible outcomes, pay no attention to their jobs ... and get promoted.
It's all about failing upward. That was what the New York Post found in its latest editorial on just what became of the culprits who cheated Hannah-Jones's daughter -- and all the other kids at her school -- of an education.
According to the Post:
The District 13 superintendent who presided over those rotten Brooklyn schools was Kamar Samuels, who nonetheless now oversees the entire Department of Education.
Oh, and Stephanie Carroll, then the incompetent principal at PS 307, has risen to become the DOE’s chief of literacy.
Their failure gets rewarded because such administrators serve the interest of the system’s true master, the United Federation of Teachers, whose baneful role Hannah-Jones utterly ignores.
