Show Vote On SAVE Act?

Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) announced Thursday that he will bring the SAVE America Act to the Senate floor next week, where it will likely fail to meet the 60-vote threshold to pass.

“It is a package of common sense policies, the kind of common sense policies that should get an automatic yes vote from literally every member of this body,” Thune stated on the Senate floor. ...

During his floor speech, Thursday, Thune did not say whether he would be changing the chamber’s rules, but seemed to indicate the bill would not be passing.

“I can’t guarantee an outcome on this legislation, but I can guarantee that we are going to put Democrats on the record,” he said.

Thune may want to get the "show vote" done up front, and then see whether the caucus wants to change the rules to bypass the filibuster. In either scenario, you do the show vote first to demonstrate the obstruction. Thune can always bring it back a second time.
