To be honest, the headline poses a loaded question, as anyone who thinks there are "six biological genders" has some sort of mental crisis.
That still leaves us with this poser: Where did James Talarico go for two weeks in the middle of a Senate campaign? Talarico's campaign insisted he was stuck at home with the flu, but no one gets bedridden for a fortnight with the flu, especially 37-year-old men, regardless of whether they have Type I diabetes. Rumors of a stay at a mental hospital began racing through social media, and soon enough, Nick Sortor claimed to have evidence of it:
đ¨ BREAKING EXCLUSIVE: Ohio mental hospital CONFIRMS James Talarico was discharged from the facility earlier this week The âfluâ thing was a BIG FAT LIE Following reporting by @SaraGonzalesTX and @CarolineWren, a hospital employee told @RheinAmacher and I that Talarico had in fact been a patient at the Lindner Center of Hope near Cincinnati, Ohio, which specializes in around-the-clock mental health treatment. While I sympathize with those dealing with mental health crises, this man is CLEARLY not suited to become a US Senator representing over 30 MILLION TEXANS. The job doesnât get easier after being elected â it only gets MORE stressful. And Talarico clearly canât handle it. I pray he gets the help he needs, but Texans need a real representative they can rely on.

This popped up yesterday afternoon, after Sortor sent out a warning to Talarico to 'come clean' about it first. It sounds as though a receptionist or nurse got caught by surprise with the call and blurted out a patient's status to an unknown caller. Needless to say, anyone who has dealt with healthcare providers would find this level of indiscretion rather surprising. While it's not entirely clear that HIPAA would cover this situation, providers err sharply to the side of caution when sharing such information. Moreover, one would expect an emergency mental health provider to be extra careful about sharing patient statuses with anyone outside of immediate and known family.
Rather than leap to the keyboard, I waited for events to unfold before jumping to a written conclusion. Soon enough, the same Ohio mental hospital issued a statement denying that Talarico had ever been in the facility at all:
Representative James Talarico has never received treatment from Lindner Center of Hope.
â Lindner Center HOPE (@LindnerCtrHope) October 11, 2026
Note that this is not the standard "we cannot disclose patient status" response. This is a flat denial for the record. Lindner Center has no dog in the Texas fight, so it seems unlikely that they would lie to get Talarico off the hook. So what about that first call? The people who posted it should explain that, especially its strange clipped context which includes neither its beginning nor its end.
Held: Things that appear too good to be true often are. Also held: Better to wait for confirmation before jumping to a conclusion.
At any rate, it seems that Talarico didn't get checked into that Ohio psych ward for the last two weeks. It still doesn't answer the question of where Talarico actually was during that two-week period. The explanation offered â a two-week bout of the flu that had him down so bad he couldn't even do a Zoom call â is absolutely absurd, especially in the context of a general election campaign. If you or I took two weeks off without any contact with our employer and claimed we were too sick to call, we'd be forced to bring a doctor's note to save our jobs.
It's not a HIPAA violation to demand accountability from politicians who disappear in the middle of a job. Better to get that now than to wait until Talarico disappears for months while supposedly representing Texas.
Editorâs Note: The 2026 Midterms will determine the fate of President Trumpâs America First agenda. Republicans must maintain control of both chambers of Congress.
