Matt Taibbi: Yesterday, the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee voted along party lines to hold Dr. Anthony Fauci in contempt of Congress, after the former NIAID head invoked his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination rather than answer questions. Predictably, the press response was to dismiss the vote as a vengeful partisan “stunt” and “ruthless persecution,” with no point other than to “punish” a figure once celebrated for leading America’s Covid-19 response.
The investigation of Fauci is no stunt, though. It’s an effort to use Congressional oversight power to punch through a six-year omerta binding duplicitious health officials, mostly located in the United States and in China. The effort to describe the investigation as partisan persecution is part of the same ongoing Covid coverup. Thousands of pages of Fauci’s diaries and other “investigative documents” released last week make clear that figures like Fauci are still hiding what they know. “The infections spread among people weeks before the Chinese reported that they were dealing with a new infection,” Fauci wrote in a diary entry on January 26th, 2020, adding: “Early on, the Chinese were saying that there is no human to human transmission and all the original 27 cases were from the market. Now we know the market was not the source, it was the amplifier.”
Fauci knew the wet market story was a lie and yet was still promoting the theory months later in story after story after story, while simultaneously denouncing any questions about a possible lab accident as conspiracy theory.
Why do it? The motive almost certainly had to be deflecting attention from the Wuhan Institute for Virology, where multiple branches of the U.S. government and even Fauci’s own NIAID had funded questionable research. If Fauci’s diaries were damning, the emails released last week involving the Wuhan Institute were worse, and spoke much more to possible causes of the pandemic.
Ed: Be sure to read it all. Taibbi has been relentless on this topic, and he provides a lot of great insight to the scandal. The Fauci Diaries are a sideshow; the committee has the real story in the other documents gleaned from the pandemic. You'll want to bookmark this one. It makes the answer to the "why" question obvious: Fauci needed to cover up his own responsibility for the Gain of Function research that created the pandemic. Millions of dollars depended on it.

Newsmax: The subpoena follows Fauci's July 29 testimony before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, during which he refused to answer questions. He invoked the Fifth Amendment more than 100 times despite a sweeping pardon by former President Joe Biden granting him immunity from federal prosecution for crimes committed between January 2014 and January 2025. The pardon does not protect Fauci from state prosecution.
"It is past time we get to the truth about what happened during COVID," Uthmeier, a Republican, told Newsmax on Wednesday night. "We issued subpoenas to Dr. Fauci today. I spent the whole day on Capitol Hill trying to gather evidence and get closer to the truth of what Dr. Fauci knew and when he knew it."
Uthmeier said his office is seeking records and gathering evidence related to public health guidance Fauci helped develop and promote as a member of President Donald Trump's White House Coronavirus Task Force during the pandemic, as well as potential financial benefits he might have received.
Ed: Uthmeier's heart is in the right place, but his jurisdiction isn't. As a federal official, the jurisdiction for potential crimes committed under color of his authority is strictly federal. That's why AGs and DAs attempting to prosecute ICE agents will not succeed; the defendants can apply for removal to federal court, at which point the DoJ will simply refuse to prosecute. Fauci will do the same and his pardon will then apply. If Uthmeier just wants to force documents into the public square, that would make sense, but Rand Paul's committee is already doing that.

Shane Harris at AMAC Newsline: It is difficult to overstate how much of a disaster the contest was for the Democrat establishment and for Schumer personally. Schumer effectively endorsed Stevens and rallied his allies to sink nearly $65 million into her campaign. Stevens also had the endorsement of Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer and outgoing Democrat Senator Gary Peters.
El-Sayed won anyway, and if he wins in November (by no means a sure thing, but still plausible), Schumer will have another major detractor in the Senate. El-Sayed has made no effort to hide the fact that he’s not a fan of the 75-year-old New Yorker and would like to see new leadership atop the caucus.
“If you’re Chuck Schumer, I’m pretty damn dangerous,” El-Sayed declared during a campaign event late last month. On another occasion, El-Sayed promised that he would not vote for Schumer for leader and has indicated that he plans to back progressive Maryland Senator Chris Van Hollen.
Following El-Sayed’s victory, Schumer attempted to extend the olive branch and project unity ahead of the general election. “We are a big tent party,” Schumer told reporters when asked about the race. But that cordiality is unlikely to last if El-Sayed ever makes it to the Senate.
Ed: That may have just been Schumer putting lipstick on a pig. It's becoming clear, though, that Schumer has become a weak suck who can't even recruit well any longer. The one saving point here is that Schumer may think El-Sayed isn't electable and that it's cost-free to talk about "big tents" when it comes to the Marxist radicals of the DSA. But in March, one of ACOG’s vice presidents called me into a meeting and told me I had a choice: resign from my position as chair, or stop publicly criticizing ACOG’s endorsement of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health’s guidelines for transgender medical care.
I had come to realize that our profession was not doing the right thing by encouraging medicalization and surgery for transgender patients, when robust evidence that these treatments provided long-term health benefits did not exist.
The choice was easy.
I told the vice president, Rachel Pittman, that I would resign because I did not intend to silence myself on an issue about which I care so much, and one that impacts so many vulnerable patients deserving of the best, evidence-based medical care.

Taylor PRIDE, a group in the town of Taylor, Texas, held the June 26, 2021, event to raise money to help "rural LGBTQ communities." The Pride Month festivities included a series of pro-LGBTQ speakers, live music, a "drag story hour," and adult drag performers such as Brianna Brinxx and the provocatively named Sedonya Face.
Talarico and Kween Kee Kee, a local preteen named Keegan, were the biggest attraction for Taylor PRIDE organizers. "[Taylor PRIDE] will be hosting numerous speakers such as State Rep.
