Welcome back to our VIP video series "Off the Beaten Path," featuring my friend Christian Toto of Hollywood in Toto! Christian and I start off our week by discussing stories and ideas that may fly under our radar, in culture, politics, sports, and more. Plus, Christian previews his latest podcast at HiT.

Hey, we knew some people wouldn't care for the UFC event on the White House lawn, but a terrorist plot seems like an overreaction to Christian and Ed. We discuss the arrests made by the FBI of conspirators who planned a mass-casualty attack on Donald Trump's birthday bash, plus the snobbery inherent in some of the more normal criticism of the event. Perhaps it didn't have the same cultured cachet as Joe Biden's topless-transgener bash a couple of years ago, but for some, that's a plus.

Christian and Ed also marvel at the A-list celebrity counterprogramming, which was excruciating. One might think these Hollywood bigshots have no talent or taste at all. They made their distaste for America painfully clear, especially Robert DeNiro, who seems to live in his Bad Grandpa persona 24/7. We recall when Bette Midler actually entertained people rather than indoctrinated them, such as in one of my favorite comedies, Ruthless People

Why did Bill Maher get a Kik from a Nazi-tatted, violent creep? Doesn't Maher usually argue for centrist Republicans like Susan Collins? This discussion is clearly on the beaten path, but both Christian and Ed are mystified by Maher's endorsement of Graham Platner ... especially before the shoes have stopped falling. And we finish with a discussion of how hungry Armie Hammer is. As an actor, guys, as an actor. Sheesh.

Watch it all and join us in the comments!
